Read the full explanation

We are

  • A proposed Consent Manager under the DPDP Act
  • Accountable to the individual, independent of every business
  • A working platform and APIs you can build on today

We are not

  • Your DPDP consultant or lawyer
  • Your Data Processor
  • A substitute for your own duties as a Data Fiduciary

Can your business be its own Consent Manager? No. The law requires a Consent Manager to be independent of the businesses it serves.

One consent, two sides

The same moment, seen from both ends.

A person makes a choice. The business gets exactly that choice, signed. Nobody has to take anyone’s word for it.

What the individual sees

Hash-chained into a tamper-evident ledger

What the business gets

  • KYC verification Allowed
  • Personalised loan offers Not allowed
  • Marketing SMS Not allowed
  • Verify before processing

One API call says yes or no, purpose by purpose.

  • Instant withdrawal webhook

Signed, so the business knows it really came from us.

  • Audit-ready evidence

Export proof of any consent for the Data Protection Board.

How it works

Three moments. Both sides covered.

  1. 1

    A request arrives

    The individual

A clear, itemised notice in their language: who is asking, for what data, for which purpose, for how long.

    The business

One API call creates the request and redirects the customer. The notice is DPDP-compliant out of the box.

  2. 2

    A choice is made

    The individual

They choose purpose by purpose. Nothing is pre-ticked. A signed receipt records exactly what they chose.

    The business

It receives exactly what was agreed, signed and hash-chained, so it never processes more than it is allowed to.

  3. 3

    Things change

    The individual

They can withdraw any time from the dashboard or the phone app. It is exactly as easy as agreeing was.

    The business

A signed webhook tells it at once, so it stops processing and stays compliant without a support ticket.

For individuals

Free forever. The individual stays in control.

  • See every consent

Which company, which purpose, which data, and for how long.

  • Withdraw in one tap

Withdrawing is exactly as easy as agreeing was. Companies must stop and confirm.

  • Signed receipts

Every choice is recorded in a tamper-evident ledger that anyone holding the receipt can verify.

  • In their language

Notices in English and Indian languages, starting with Hindi.

The law, in plain words

What is the DPDP Act?

The Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 is India’s law on how organisations collect and use digital personal data. It gives individuals rights over their data, places clear duties on the companies that process it, and sets up the Data Protection Board of India to enforce it. The DPDP Rules, 2025 fill in the details and are coming into force in phases.

Four terms worth knowing

Data Principal
The individual the data is about. For a child, this includes their parent or lawful guardian.
Data Fiduciary
The company or body that decides why and how personal data is processed. It stays responsible even when it uses vendors.
Consent Manager
A company registered with the Board that lets individuals give, review and withdraw consent across companies from one place, acting on their behalf and neutral between the parties.
Data Protection Board
The body that hears complaints, inquires into breaches and can impose penalties of up to ₹250 crore.

Rights of individuals

What the Act lets individuals do

Every one of these rights can be exercised from the myconsentapp dashboard.

  • Know what is held

Ask for a summary of the personal data held, how it is processed, and who it has been shared with.

  • Correct or erase

Have inaccurate data corrected, incomplete data completed, and data no longer needed erased.

  • Withdraw consent

Take back consent at any time, as easily as it was given. The company must stop, and make sure its processors stop.

  • Raise a grievance

Companies and Consent Managers must offer a working grievance channel and respond in time.

  • Nominate someone

Name a person to exercise these rights in the event of death or inability to act.

  • Complain to the Board

If a grievance is not resolved, take it to the Data Protection Board of India.

FAQ

The DPDP Act: common questions

Short, plain answers. This is general information, not legal advice.

For individuals

What is the DPDP Act?

The Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 is India’s data protection law. It governs how digital personal data is collected and used, gives individuals rights over their data, and makes the companies that process it accountable. The DPDP Rules, 2025 set out the detailed procedures.

Who does it apply to?

It applies to digital personal data processed in India, whether collected online or collected offline and later digitised. It also applies to processing outside India when it is connected to offering goods or services to people in India. Data used for purely personal or domestic purposes, and data a person has made public themselves, are outside its scope.

What counts as valid consent?

Consent must be free, specific, informed, unconditional and unambiguous, given by a clear affirmative action, and limited to the data needed for the stated purpose. Pre-ticked boxes, silence or inactivity do not count, and a company cannot make an unrelated service conditional on extra consent.

Can consent be withdrawn?

Yes, at any time, and it must be as easy as giving it. After withdrawal, the company must stop processing the data within a reasonable time, and make sure its processors stop too, unless a law requires the data to be kept. Withdrawal does not make processing that already happened unlawful.

What rights do individuals have?

An individual can ask for a summary of their data and who it was shared with, have it corrected, completed, updated or erased, withdraw consent, get a grievance resolved, and nominate someone to act for them. If a grievance is not resolved, they can complain to the Data Protection Board.

Do individuals have any duties?

Yes. An individual must not impersonate someone else, suppress material information when providing data for official documents, or file false or frivolous complaints. Breaching these duties can attract a penalty of up to ₹10,000.

How is children’s data protected?

Anyone under 18 is a child under the Act. A company needs verifiable consent from a parent or lawful guardian before processing a child’s data, and must not track, behaviourally monitor or target advertising at children.

What is a Consent Manager?

A company registered with the Data Protection Board that gives individuals one accessible, transparent and interoperable place to give, manage, review and withdraw consent. It acts on their behalf, is accountable to them, and must avoid conflicts of interest with the companies asking. myconsentapp is a proposed Consent Manager; we are not yet registered with the Board.

How can an individual complain about a company?

Start with the company’s grievance channel, or raise it through a Consent Manager. Companies must respond within the time set by the Rules. If the individual is not satisfied, they can file a complaint with the Data Protection Board of India.

Does myconsentapp cost anything?

No. It is free for individuals, and always will be. Businesses pay to integrate, which is how it stays free for individuals, without ads or selling data.

For businesses

Is a business a Data Fiduciary?

If it decides why and how personal data is processed, yes. Vendors that process data on its instructions are Data Processors, but the business remains responsible for what they do with it, so it needs contracts and controls in place. With myconsentapp you register each processor and its contract, and we track every processor’s confirmation that it stopped using or erased the data after a withdrawal or erasure request.

Can a business process data without consent?

Only for the “legitimate uses” listed in the Act, such as data a person voluntarily gave for a specific purpose and did not object to, legal obligations, medical emergencies, certain employment purposes and some government functions. Everything else needs consent.

What must a consent notice include?

The personal data and the purpose it will be used for, how to withdraw consent and exercise other rights, and how to complain to the Board. It must be clear, stand on its own, and be available in English or any of the 22 languages in the Eighth Schedule of the Constitution.

What are the penalties?

Up to ₹250 crore for failing to take reasonable security safeguards, up to ₹200 crore for failing to report a breach or meet obligations for children’s data, up to ₹150 crore for breaches by Significant Data Fiduciaries, and up to ₹50 crore for other breaches of the Act.

What must a business do after a data breach?

Inform the Data Protection Board and every affected person without delay. The Rules then require a detailed report to the Board, generally within 72 hours, covering what happened, its likely impact and the steps taken.

What is a Significant Data Fiduciary?

A company the Government notifies based on factors such as the volume and sensitivity of data and the risk to people’s rights. It must appoint a Data Protection Officer based in India and an independent data auditor, and carry out periodic impact assessments and audits.

Can personal data be transferred outside India?

Generally yes, except to countries the Government restricts by notification. Sector rules that are stricter, such as RBI requirements for payment data, continue to apply.

When do the obligations apply?

The Rules were notified in November 2025 with a phased start: the Board straight away, Consent Manager registration after about a year, and most fiduciary obligations after about 18 months. Building consent, notices and rights handling now avoids a last-minute rush.

Does a business have to use a Consent Manager?

No, but the Act lets people give and withdraw consent through one, and the business must honour it. Integrating with a Consent Manager gives it itemised notices, signed records to show an auditor, and withdrawals delivered automatically.
